Cambridge Champs Junior Sculling Head 20th March 2021
Given the current national lockdown and ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the organising committee are keeping the 2021 event under review and will make a decision by mid-February as to whether the race will run or not.
Should the event run, we will not be opening it to visiting crews (i.e. members of non-Cambridge based rowing clubs) as we feel we are unable to provide adequate facilities for these crews to boat in a COVID-secure manner since all boathouse facilities are currently closed and were before the current lockdown.
Details below are indicative of how we expect the Junior Sculling Head to run if it were to go ahead.
DIVISIONS Div 1: 10:30 | Div 2: 12:15 | Div 3: 14:00.
There will be sufficient time between divisions to allow crews to double-up, and will permit boat sharing across divisions (though please ensure boats are adequately cleaned between use to reduce likelihood of COVID transmission).
The course runs 1450m upstream from The Plough pub at Fen Ditton to the site of the old Penny Ferry pub at Chesterton.
The race will use a rolling start on the Plough Reach. There is excellent towpath access along the whole course, which makes it an ideal event for juniors. Bring a bike or your trainers and you will be metres away from your scullers!

Please note – doubling up is at the discretion of parents/coaches (please take account of the age/experience/stamina of the rowers when considering doubling up)
We recommend that where possible single sculls and double sculls (particularly J16-18) select divisions 1 & 2 as below; all quads select any division. These are recommendations and are not obligatory, in order to provide competing clubs with complete flexibility for boat sharing etc. but also giving the opportunity to compete in similar conditions with your opposition.
Division 1 Men’s 1X & Women’s 2X
Division 2 Men’s 2X & Women’s 1X
Entries will open at 09:00 on Friday 12th February and will close on Saturday 13th March at 12:00.
Entries must be made via BROE2 for BR competitors. Entries will not be accepted until payment has been made by BACS or a cheque received by the club.
The draw will be carried out at 18:00 on Tuesday 16th March 2021 and posted on this website shortly afterwards. All race documentation is available for download below.
Medals for category winners (in categories where more than 3 entries have been made). There will also be prizes for judged sculling style and best cornering at Ditton Corner. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a prize giving is not planned and we will notify winners as to how to obtain their prizes.
