Pots for this year’s inductees in IM3

The new Men’s A Crew starts on the right foot. On Saturday the 1st of October, we got our first pots as a crew in the IM3 4+ category with a time of 10:47 over 2.6k, just 10.6s ahead of Hughes Hall. We race2016_01_10_im3-winnersd at a steady 28, masterly stroked by Geraint and authoritatively lead by our cox Gemma. Matt at number 3 is an experienced rower, but Michel and myself at bow and 2 respectively, are the off-spring of the induction programme, which the club runs from March to October. We both joined in May, and thanks to its organiser and to the many people in the club that offer their time generously, had all the opportunities to progress quickly. We were surprised and pleased we came together so fast: crews have only just been formed and we had few outings to synchronize as a crew, but there is obviously good will, commitment and some good power. Let’s see where we can take it!

Safari Dinner
Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled.
Due to popular demand (and some very kind hosts/offers of food and drink) the Thanksgiving Safari Fundraising Supper will be going ahead on Saturday 30 November. The evening will showcase the cooking skills of Champs members, some fantastic venues in de Freville Avenue, Hurst Park Avenue and Arbury Road and our creativity around American Thanksgiving. As well as having a good night out, the main purpose of the event is to raise funds for Rosie’s wheel chair. So for the astoundingly great value suggested donation of £30 per head and a bottle of wine (£50 for a couple), your Thanksgiving Safari gives you:
  • 7.00pm American cocktails and starters – hosted by Cathy Haines in de Freville Avenue
  • 8.00pm Thanksgiving Turkey and all the trimmings: pumpkin pie, moose chipolatas and racoon rashers – hosted by Belinda in Arbury Road
  • 9.30pm Baked American cheesecake, cheese, chocolates, American whisky and Port – hosted by Donna in Hurst Park Avenue.
And maybe dancing and possibly Moo Cow as well!

Please let us know by the end of October how many tickets you require. To do this, please make your contribution via the Rosie’s Wheels local giving page [https://localgiving.com/rosies-wheels], write ‘Safari Supper’ in the comments box, and then please forward the confirmation email to belinda.a.jones@gmail.com in order to confirm your seat/s. The local giving is matching £10 at the moment – so a £30 donation will become £40 + gift aid.

If you can’t attend but would still like to contribute in some way – providing/cooking a turkey, vegetables, deserts or donating wine or Port, – then please contact belinda.a.jones@gmail.com or jules.m@me.com.
Many thanks to all for your support so far and we are looking to a fun evening of merriment and fundraising!!
Belinda & Jules.
