Cold weather and your safety

The Arctic blast has finally arrived this winter with a vengeance.

Please don’t get caught out on the river unprepared.

Be sensible about your outings. The flag may be green, but conditions — particularly in the evenings — may be deteriorating due to wind, temperature or precipitation. In those cases, make the right decisions about the safety of your crew and the care of our equipment.

Dress appropriately for the cold weather. Have several layers to take on and off as you warm up and cool down. Make sure they include a hat, warm gloves, thick socks and a water and wind resistant outer layer to keep you dry and warm. Take all the layers with you in the boat.

Take precautionary measures such as having a bank party (particularly for all evening outings), have a mobile phone in the boat for emergencies and ensure that your cox is up to speed on directions to the various access points on the river.

SINGLE AND DOUBLE SCULLERS WITHOUT BANK PARTIES: PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER PERSON AWARE OF YOUR OUTING PLANS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. DO NOT GO OUT IN HOURS OF DARKNESS WITHOUT A BANK PARTY.

Thank you for your patience and enjoy some safe and brrrrrrrrrr chilly rowing.

Bests,

Paul
